Congratulations! You’re in the GROWING Phase

Your business is maturing. The work you have put in is starting to pay off. Things feel like they’re humming (for the most part). You have a sense of pride in what you have established.

The projects you’ve been working on have taught you SO much about design, the client experience, and business.

You’ve had enough client experience to know what kinds of people you want to work with. And you want more people JUST like that.

This season is all about growing your business, not only financially, but with maturity.

This means you are focused on quality over quantity when it comes to clients and projects. It also means paying attention to the metrics in your business to help you make sound business decisions.

Because your business is starting to take off, you can see clearly that you can’t do it all on your own. If you haven’t already, this is the season to seek support whether that’s an in-house employee or simply a part-time virtual assistant.

In this season, your primary focus will be on attracting quality clients over quantity while obtaining the support you need to serve them at the highest level possible.

Key Insights

How to know you’re ready to move onto the next phase of business

  • Your website is fully functional and showcases past project work you are proud of. (Notice I didn’t say your website was perfect)

  • You have narrowed in on 3-5 effective marketing strategies that engage your ideal clients.

  • Your website is converting visitors to take action such as booking a Discovery Call or downloading your lead magnet.

  • You have implemented automations so your client communications are consistent, timely, and helps prevent tasks from falling through the cracks.

  • You are consistently attracting right-fit clients you’re excited to work with.

  • You’re willing to turn down projects or clients that not aligned with your vision and goals.

  • Typically, you can move prospective clients through your intake process with ease and self-assurance.

  • You have at least one assistant helping you with client work. If you primarily serve clients in-person (i.e. not virtual design) this assistant is ideally someone local who attends meetings, can run errands, and who you trust to interface with your clients.

  • You have SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in place for many of your recurring tasks.

Be Aware of These Blindspots

Taking on Poor-fit Projects
Saying “Yes” can become a habit. With increased demand, you simply can’t say yes to everything. The projects that got you here, may not get you to where you’re going. Taking on poor-fit projects leads to resentment by sacrificing your creative energy. Get clear on what your non-negotiables are and commit to them.

Same Old Marketing Strategies
It’s important to realize that your marketing strategy may need to evolve with your business growth. With each new lead make notes of the quality of clients you’re attracting and where they are coming from. If you find you’re continuing to attract clients who are no longer a good fit, it may be time to revisit your messaging and your marketing.

Hiring Help Too Late
There is a sweet spot of hiring before you get to the point of overwhelm and hiring when you have a steady pipeline of work. Start small and hire someone who has the potential to grow with you as your business grows. A part-time contractor could be the perfect stepping stone to a full-time paid employee.

Not Tracking Business Metrics
At this stage, you need clear visibility into your finances, profitability, and client acquisition metrics to make strategic decisions. Avoid relying on intuition instead of data to guide critical business decisions.

Hey designer!
I’m Kate.

I’m an interior designer, girl-mom, dark-chocolate aficionado, and an estate sale junkie.

I started Designer’s Oasis with the intention of supporting designers just like you, who have no shortage of big dreams - AND - could use support, resources, and community to help them along on their journey.

And here you are...Here we are!

It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you!

With over 15 years of experience as a professional interior designer and 10 years at the helm of my own design firm, I’ve learned a few things about what works….and what doesn’t.

I’m here to share it all with you.

What I Wish For You

I created this quiz and these resources because I want you to feel empowered and equipped to make BIG moves for yourself this year.

I have to be 100% honest. Building an interior design business isn’t easy.

But it can be incredibly rewarding with huge revenue potential while also providing you with flexibility for better work-life balance.

If you’re new around here, consider this your new home for interior design business resources, tools, community, and support.

Building a business takes time and no one gets to where they are alone. Even Tiger Woods - the greatest golfer of ALL TIME - has a golf coach.  (Promise there won’t be too many sports references around here but when I heard that, I was like…“Of course, he does!”)
