Congratulations! You’re in the LAUNCHING Phase

You're in the early stages of launching your interior design business which is equal parts excitement and quite possibly terrifying.

Not to worry. You’re in the right place to start gaining clarity and the confidence you need to make massive momentum.

This phase is all about focusing on the business fundamentals & branding foundations of your business.

Whether you’ve had zero clients yet or you’re working through your first few projects, it’s important to lay a strong foundation to build a healthy, sustainable, and fulfilling interior design business.

Just like in design, everything in business works together.

If your brand is vague, inauthentic, or generic you run the risk of spinning your wheels with clients and projects that don’t light you up.

If you don’t have your business basics in order, it will be harder to show up professionally when new clients enter your world.

In this season, your primary focus will be on establishing your brand identity (hint: this is so much more than brand colors) and getting your business basics set up.

Key Insights

How to know you’re ready to move onto the next phase of business

  • You have established your business as a legal entity, opened a business bank account(s), and claimed your online presence with a URL and social media handles.

  • Prospective clients have a way to contact you even if it’s a simple one-page landing page while you work on fleshing out your website.

  • You’ve researched and characterized your Ideal Client and their pain points - both internal and external.

  • You’ve defined your Unique Value Proposition and an authentic cocktail party pitch about how you help people.

  • You’ve established your brand’s visual identity including fonts, colors, logos, and marks.

  • You’ve defined your signature interior design service and outlined the client experience or process.

  • You’re actively talking about your new venture to friends and family and asking for referrals

  • You have established a way to accept new clients including providing a proposal, signing a contract, and accepting payments.

  • You have at least one paying interior design client. (Totally okay if it’s a family member, but they gotta be paying you!)

Be Aware of These Blindspots

It can be easy to fall into the trap of believing that you have to have “all your ducks in a row” before you take on your first client (Hint: you’ll never have all your ducks in a row).

Even small projects can help you gain huge insights into what works and help you see what you’re missing.

Remember, nothing is carved in stone. Everything you create in this phase will be a s#itty first draft. There will be time to refine everything.

Be proud of where you’re going and don’t let imposter feelings or the comparison game keep you from putting yourself out there.

Remember…Kelly Wearstler, Nate Berkus, Joanna Gaines, Martin Lawrence Bullard, Amber Lewis, Thomas O'Brien, Jonathan Adler, Sheila Bridges, Emily Henderson are ALL notable designers without a formal design education.

SOMEONE needs that special thing that only you have. #doitscared

Hey designer!
I’m Kate.

I’m an interior designer, girl-mom, dark-chocolate aficionado, and an estate sale junkie.

I started Designer’s Oasis with the intention of supporting designers just like you, who have no shortage of big dreams - AND - could use support, resources, and community to help them along on their journey.

And here you are...Here we are!

It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you!

With over 15 years of experience as a professional interior designer and 10 years at the helm of my own design firm, I’ve learned a few things about what works….and what doesn’t.

I’m here to share it all with you.

What I Wish For You

I created this quiz and these resources because I want you to feel empowered and equipped to make BIG moves for yourself this year.

I have to be 100% honest. Building an interior design business isn’t easy.

But it can be incredibly rewarding with huge revenue potential while also providing you with flexibility for better work-life balance.

If you’re new around here, consider this your new home for interior design business resources, tools, community, and support.

Building a business takes time and no one gets to where they are alone. Even Tiger Woods - the greatest golfer of ALL TIME - has a golf coach.  (Promise there won’t be too many sports references around here but when I heard that, I was like…“Of course, he does!”)
